TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Iran's Sanam snatched a narrow 80-79 victory over the Syrian team Al-Jala in the quarterfinal of the West Asia Super League at the basketball hall of Azadi Sports Complex here Tuesday night.

Sanam won the first to third quarters 22-18 22-18 20-19 and lost the fourth 16-24, but it edged out Syria's representative in the first leg with a one-point superiority.

The two sides will play the second-leg quarterfinal match in Syria on March 28. Saba OT victory

Saba Battery from Iran fought back to beat Syria's Al-Jaish 91-90 in overtime Monday.

Saba and Al-Jaish tied 25-25 in the first quarter, but the Syrian team won the second and third quarters 16-11 22-18.

Iran's representative came from 12 points down to take the lead in the fourth quarter with a 80-78 result, but the visitor leveled the match in the last seven seconds.

Saba, however, managed to beat Al-Jaish in overtime, adding 11 points to its asset.

The second leg in Syria on March 27 decides the overall winner that books a berth in the semifinals.
